Cooking With Spirits For Simple Meals

I remember well my friend's cooking with spirits, way back when.

Remarkable for having a dinner party was that my friend lived in a bed-sitting room with a hot plate, mini fridge and small kitchen counter top/sink in one corner.

I also recall a cheery view above the sink onto a tree-lined street.

On his two hot plates he cooked coq au vin, or chicken with red wine on a bed of chopped garlic in one pot, and a pot of white rice and wild rice mixed on the other. About 20 minutes before he served, he added a layer of green beans.

6 of us sat around a folding table and had a satisfying dinner followed with espresso and chatted long into the evening.

A delicious and high spirited meal on a student budget!

This recipe shown below is a little fancier - yet still very simple!
